  • Hey Jay, Any chance you can test streaming at 900p60 in the future? Although the bitrate is the same as 1080p60 it's supposed to provide a better experience while streaming (possibly easier on the CPU), all while still providing nearly the same visual quality as 1080p60.

  • Awesome vid, I'm a newbie to OBS so this was helpful. I wish more "tech guy" channels would do streaming tests like this, especially when they benchmark CPUs. I keep seeing CPU benchmarks, like, "here's doing nothing but gaming, here's doing nothing but encoding," and that's great, but looking at every task individually doesn't really tell me how the CPUs compare in a livestream, when you're basically doing both at once. 'course, I'm probably worrying about nothing since 90% of the time I'm streaming simple/retro stuff that my new computer runs while idling.

  • Hey Jay - I was curious if you could help point me in the right direction with something when you get a chance. I am currently running a Ryzen 5 3600 w/ RTX 2070, 32gb GSkill 3600mhz RAM, Asus Tuf X570 mobo, and EVGA 650W 80+ Bronze PSU. I’m really not satisfied w/ my FPS in Warzone while I am streaming (hovering 80-90) and have been considering upgrading to a Ryzen 9 3900x in the hopes that streaming on x264 as opposed to NVENC will boot my in game performance numbers. This was my first PC build, but unfortunately isn’t really planning out the way I wanted. Should I upgrade CPU, GPU (or wait on 30 series) thoughts? Anyone who sees this feel free to chime in. Thank you! Sorry for the long post btw.

  • I got a i7 6700K (4c/8t) + Turing (NVENC) and my girl's got a Ryzen 3600 (6c/12t) + Pascal (no NVENC) and she is having a much better time streaming solely due to the additional cores. I disagree with Jay here and strongly advise against a 4 core CPU for streaming. Yes, it's fine in some games, but modern games often fully load a 4-core, and the additional load of the screen capture software causes bad and stuttery performance, despite using nvenc.

  • Yeah and you can Download the "AMD Encoder" driver for OBS, if you have a AMD Radeon GPU... or APU. But, if don't want to mess with the extra software, you can just use Relive from amd to record or livestream using the GPU to do all the work(recording is epic and File size is small). But, i do like OBS because it has a lot of different setting to mess with which lets you customize your streaming screen(ReLive is the same but, i haven't gotten my feet wet in it yet... The customizing the screen layout part) just bummed that OBS doesn't let me choose which GPU to use(Multi-GPU users) for Recording/streaming... Actually... AMD add this to ReLive, Please :D

    TheDeadManShowTheDeadManShow5 tháng trước
  • If anyone here is running my old setup, which is Ryzen 5 3500 and Radeon RX 570 8G, use x264 encoding instead of AMD encoding. (720p 60fps or 900p 60fps) It does depend on the game you are playing because some games are more taxing on GPU than CPU but if you have "middle-class" CPU and "middle-class" AMD graphics card you are better off not to use AMD encoding. AMD encoding is not that great. The game I tested were RE2 Remake and Yakuza 0 and they are both heavy on GPU at the high setting and don't leave much headroom for GPU encoding.
