  • I've got a Quest 1, so i've got till 2023, but i'll never buy another quest product if it stays locked to facebook. I refuse to buy any games from the oculus store. I buy stuff on steam and use link. I would have recommended the quest to anyone getting into VR for the first time a few months ago and now not only would i not recommend it, i would recommend they actively boycott it. I'm honestly starting to get "1984" vibes from Facebook and to a lesser extent Apple.

  • I madea facebook account for this. No pictures, no friends, and all my information is private....but I don't like that facebook knows who I am. Oh well...if valve, htc, or anyone else can make a similar or better product, i'll ditch the quest 2. But for the moment i'm having a blast.

I don’t get while people are so upset about Facebook getting your info you’ll never know what they use it for anyway it isn’t going to change your life at all. Facebook isn’t going anywhere get over it.

I've made burner facebook accounts before and they just ban them because they didn't have enough info to verify my identity. It happened to my brother as well and his quest 2 and so he had to get a refund because they banned his FB account.

    • It’s pretty good. I have the first Rift CV1 and the Quest 2. Honestly, it’s a good idea to take a break from it from time to time. I’m a bit of a junkie with VR, but it can wear on you after a while. The Quest 2 is a good way to get started with not a lot of cash layout. No PC required and many of the games are pretty good in my opinion. If you get the chance, give it a try.

  • As a Rift owner, I never got the draw towards standalone VR yet. One day, sure as tech keeps advancing, but for now, I want as much power hooked into that thing as possible to make it as real as possible. Not all VR needs to be photo real, Superhot, Lucky's Tale, Beat Saber, and Job Simulator are great experiences that the Quest should be able to handle, but as you said, racing sims are great with a wheel and VR, and I want more pixels, frames, and polygons to get those as accurate as possible. Also, as everyone else said, mandatory FB account means my next headset wont be another Oculus.

  • I don't own a VR Headset even though I have got the system and the money for it. If there would be more games like Half Life Alyx (Big Story Games) that would be the only changer for me but one good game and a couple of one time fun games. Are not worth for me at the moment.

    BobbyBobby28 ngày trước
  • Facebook sells the Quest 2 at cost price / at a loss in order to bind you to the Facebook platform. The Quest 2 has a Snapdragon XR2 chip, which is a modified version of the mobile Snapdragon 865. The price of an 865 + 5G is estimated at $141. For an extra $159 you don't build a whole headset. If it was a strategy like PlayStation / Xbox for selling games, it would be one thing. However, the FB is not about the gamers: _Facebook acquired VR company Oculus in 2014 for an estimated US$2.3 billion. But where Oculus originally aimed at gamers, Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg wants VR for social media. At the same event last year, Zuckerberg said Facebook sees VR as a pathway to a new kind of "social computing platform" using the enhanced feeling of "presence" that VR affords._ The privacy aspect is only dismissed as something of a preference, but that is because it is dismissed as having the same impact as their social media page. On FB you choose what you post, often in order to consciously sketch the best possible image of you. Now, with the pandemic, people are looking more and more into the virtual world. With a game like VRchat, you can suddenly walk around with your friends in Tokyo, for example, which makes for a much more natural situation than staring at each other's faces while video chatting. VR is a lot closer to reality and it's a lot easier to spend hours with friends. Facebook knows that this is going to be THE new way of interaction, just as social media has changed a lot. That is why they would like to have their tracking software here as well. If there is even one person with a Quest 2 near you, Facebook will have access to it. So in addition to recording your voice, a headset also provides the following information (at VR researcher Jeremy Bailenson): _...commercial VR systems typically track body movements 90 times per second to display the scene appropriately, and high-end systems record 18 types of movements across the head and hands. Consequently, spending 20 minutes in a VR simulation leaves just under 2 million unique recordings of body language._ If you think that simply creating a new account hides Facebook's tracking (in addition to having a real-name policy and therefore losing everything), then you have not followed the news either. This is literally a company that has become one of the richest companies on your data. Every website that uses a like-button, or any other FB script, helps you build your shadow profile. Furthermore, if a video of you has ever been uploaded to Facebook or Instagram in which you talk, it's not too hard for the Facebook Research team, with one of the best paying jobs, to match your Quest 2 voice to it. If you want to know more about the impact of this, check out "The Social Dilemma" on Netflix. So, yes, cheap hardware, but for that, you commit to the Oculus store and give Facebook access to a new, richer market for data gathering. You also help with Amazon/Uber practices where they first suffer losses until all competitors are destroyed, and then suddenly there are only Facebook headsets left.

  • You know a company is evil AF when they offer you a super cost affective VR experience that lowers the bar of entry greatly and the response from the community is " GTF away from me" . I'm sitting here watching Jay take Zukerbergs money like, "Can I even trust this guy now" ? . Like he tainted himself by simply being in the same room as the Quest and not being offended about it.

  • i have been struggling finding creative ways to exercise without boring myself out of my mind. the quest was a bit too expensive after tax, at almost 450. this is more manageable at 320 after tax. facebook account sucks, but i already use it for other things i dont feel like making an account to. reading their warranty has me a bit worried since it is a mainly plastic device (1yr warranty for the usa, but eu gets special treatment because they have better laws about this stuff, so they get 2y. imho it should be 2y standard or 3y.) im also not a fan of the policy regarding class actions and whatnot. regardless, there isnt another device out that can match this price with on headset tracking, comes with everything you need in the box. i will be ordering the extremely expensive cable at a later date, i do have a tb3 port on my laptop thankfully, and it looks like it supports everything the oculus needs. all in all i am happy with my purchase, im just disgruntled by the lack of understanding facebook has towards their customers, and even towards oculus. if i worked at oculus and heard the plan for legal and marketing (signing up for facebook) i would be embarrassed.
