  • I'm baffled by people who get fanboyish about huge monolithic companies striving for a monopoly in one of the most valuable industries in the world. People get defensive over them like AMD or Intel are their local sports team. Dudes. They're not your friend. You're not on their side: your money is on their side. And their products are, in the grand scheme of things, *incredibly* similar, separated only by tiny margins of price, thermals, stability and performance.

I must confess this video has dampened, my enthusiasm as I thought AMD had gotten past the compatibility problems, should i go i9 10900k? ( i just want something to work out of the box, not an OCer.

  • My biggest reason for still buying Intel is the proven reliability. I don't exactly make a whole lot of money, and I am putting a decent amount into my next build. (Already bought the parts.) With that said, I am building a system in the hopes of not having to build a new setup for quite some time. I have always been able to rely on my Intel processor to last. Now I am not suggesting AMD isn't as reliable _now._ However, I know intel is, and I simply feel safer going with what I know works. *My new build* CPU: Intel Core i9-10900k Motherboard: MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Carbon WiFi Gaming Motherboard AIO: NZXT Kraken Z73 360mm - RL-KRZ73-01 - AIO Memory: Crucial Ballistix RGB 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) PSU: ASUS STRIX 850W FM 80+G ATX WT SSD: Crucial P5 2TB PCIe M.2 2280SS SSD Case: Thermaltake View 71 Tempered Glass Snow Current Graphics card: EVGA RTX 2070super XC Ultra I also have two hard drives that are both made by Western Digital one 5TB and one 2TB. My entire build is going to be white. This is the first theme build I've done, so I am looking forward to it. :)

  • That number 1 reason you list is THE reason in my opinion. I have tried over the years to go to AMD. EVERY time I try AMD I have to shadetree it up and get third party drivers and tweak the install and tweak the software and hook up a flux capacitor with extra diesel sparkplugs, and yes its twice as fast for half as much but it breaks or doesn't function MOST of the time. Even if AMD becomes the best and their stuff is lightyears ahead of Intel I will continue to buy Intel because I can buy their CPU and mobo, turn it on and it works. It continues to work and work and work and work. No 3rd party drivers, no bs. Software supports it effortlessly. So yeah I have completely lost trust in the brand and will never trust it again. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, and fool me three times and well I might as well flip the table over at this point.

    DorianDorian18 ngày trước
  • The simplest reason will always be stability. I used to have an AMD that would overheat like crazy (yes I know it’s a long time now) but I’ve never had an issue with Intel and I can run ANY game I desire at high FPS so why would I switch.

  • Remember looking at computer parts and asking for Intel, the store services told me to look at AMD “because they are better!” They were not listening to why I wanted Intel. Intel works better for the software I want to be using. I did not want to shop there after that, because they would not listing to me.

    Tiffany PlacenciaTiffany Placencia19 ngày trước
    • Exactly. This whole debate is stupid. AMD is better at some things, Intel is better at others. While AMD is making advancements and could surpass intel pretty soon, they are not there yet. Intel still does better in single core applications, and has better OC potential. It's not a simple case of "they are better".

In Warthunder i went from 45fps at mid graphic setting to 205 fps at max grapics setting. CPU and Graphic card and mosfet stayed below 53 degrees celsius. Good work AMD. My old configuration was a Gigabyte P35-DS4 mainboard, 6GB DDR2-960Mhz memory and a Intel quad core second gen CPU ( Q8300 i believe).......okay....okay....its 11 years old......But it was in total less then 350 Euro investment.

  • I would differ on the cycle discussion. As developer, and depends how deep you go into the machine level development. There is the general audience that develops single core and typically will relly on frequency. If you do AI or intensive math operations like gaming, the most important factor are the FLOPS (floating point operations per second). With that said for editing, encoding, content creation that is important, but so far no youtuber talks on terms of that or low level instructions like MOV, ADD, PUSH, MUL. Honestly speaking that is when a good metric should be considered... instruction set, and FLOPS

  • Intell is still way more compelling even though my entire modivation for buying new hardware started with the AMD hype train. hear me out... Ive been super keen to get AMD form all the hype and the reviews but when I actually drill down into what I can get for my money Intell is actaully a better options when comparing price, user benchmarks, (not just benchmakrs in the ideal conditions with the best complimenting hardware) and the overall package you get with "intel inside". First lets talk laptops coz Im looking into this more than anything else atm. I started off specifically looking for a good AMD laptop. But after drilling down im including way more intel in my short list than AMD becasue you just dont get anything else for your money other than an AMD cpu that only narrowly beats the provided intel packages in multithreaded perfomance. While AMD cpus are way more power efficient nearly all the AMD laptops are coupled with come with half the battery capacity, poerer keyboards or track pads or worse screens or missing web cam. The intel laptops at the same or lowere price points have everything included, double the battery capacity, equa single threaded performnace, better io perfomance with the rest of the hardware, wich is honnestly more important unless you constaltly need mutithreaded tasks and then the AMD cpu will just swallow your battery anyway coz if it need the power it will use it, plus intel comes with thunderbolt 3 DP out, and often packages with better screens and build quality for the same $. And with all those trade off the user bench marks show little difference in perfomance. *Note that this is comparing the cpus models that are on offer at the prices I can get them outside of the US not comparing the "equivilent" cpu models. Seems you really have to sacrifice quite a lot and are paying more for it making me question "is there an AMD tax because of the hype?" Eg. I can get a Ryzen 7 4800h with 42wh battery and a 1650, OR for $250 less I can get an i7-10750H withj a 2070 82wh battery 144hz screen and the CPU performance dfifference is neglegable. Yeah AMD can technically last longer even on a smaller battery but only if you not using its power and the intel models all come bundled with double the battery capacity anyway so the battery life of amd is not that complelling with the exception of the zenbook 14 boasting 22hrs batery life but even then you can get an Intel Zenbook 14 with a larger battery claiming 15 hours wich is less but then it also come swith a 1650 dedicated GPU and a 4k screen option for the low cost of 5 hour battery time 🤷‍♂️. And thats probaly the closest example where I migth lean towards AMD. Intel is the clear winner for laptops still imo when you look at whats on offer by the companies using them. It basically get an AMD cpu OR get everything else you want. Just for the slight CPU performance increase and more battery its not worth the trade of. THis will hopfulyl change in the future as amd cpus get used more. I have a desktop for gamign anyways. Now when I looking at desktops..... I want to change my motherboard because I it has a limites sata 3 ports etc adn I thought why not get a Ryzen CPu while im at it becasue everyone is saying how amaizing they are. I currently have an if 9700 from nearly 2 years ago and it has 8 cores and reaches higher clock speeds than all of the AMD cpus I can afford. eg. Ryzen 7 3800x reaches 4.5 but My i7 reaches 4.7. It has 8 cores and so do the ryzen 7 cpus avaialble. Also Ryzen 7 3800X is $600 here in AU and thats from the cheaper stores vs if I buy the same old CPU i already have again I's pay $150 less. On top of that the user benchmarks show the 9700 is still faster. It doesnt have hyperthreading, which ive found is actually faster in some situations some tasks wich I im guessing is because the physical cores are not switching between queued thread operations. Eg. Disable hyperthreading and then render a movie in 3ds max and it finishes faster. Not that 3d rendering is my normal workflow. The multicore performance on the Ryzen 7 is better but I am paying for it. If I drop down to the same price range I can get only get a Ryzen 5 3600x wich is still a great CPU but less cores, lower top speed and lower all core load. If I want ot go all out I can get a Ryzen 9 3950X but thats easily over $1000 and I'd also have to spend a LOT more on my other components to even take advantage of its power. Now keep all this in mind and know that my entier pre-built system that I currenyl run back when I got it cost around $1700-$2200 depending where you got it from and still out perfoms any of the AMD offerings in any pre-build systems with similar storage ram and gpu. (including from custom builders that only charge $80 for building a system). So again the price to perfomance just isnt as advertized on youtub. Im not in the US so yeah thats probably a big factor but most of the world ins't in the US 🤣 and thats a big market share id say. I can order from the US but there is additonal international tax added and then some companies charge excessivly for freight and you end up adding up to $500 to the price fo any laptop when you get to the checkout and you say nope! and close the browser tab. Another factor is this... most ppl dont trawl the internet for the best price to performance and binge watch youtube reviews so they dont know better and they only buy what they are presented with. if I was to go to the local retailers in my ocuntry you are offered intel and you will pay up to $1000 more for the same system you can get online. AMD offerings are actually cheaper in retail situations I think but the options are very slim and they dont come with other good hardware like GPU's good battery, good screens etc and even in the case of desktop computers youd be luck to see amd in most palces and when you do it will be bunndled in a package that sint very compelling. Again hopfully this changes soon. And now one more reason I can think of is that I/O performance on intel is faster talking the ram, sdd's etc all that stuff. Combine that with snapier boost clocks and single threaded performance a lot of developers would want this. eg. I work on a project with over 35000 files. Muticore performance is great for my code editor to index all the code.. my current i7 can index all the class objects funciton definitions etc inside this massive project in under a minute and once it does this doesnt need to do that again. Just updates when things change. For comile and run times single threaded performance high clock speeds and better IO is king. Well not for all cases but it doesnt need to use 8 cores for compile and running of code. Unity tesintg. Unit testing is a huge thing there are a LOT of devlopers int he world who run Unit tests and most fo the time this process is single threaded. Reading thousands of file sone by one and peforming a series of test for each one as fast as possible is heavuily boosted by clock speed and sotrage IO perfomance and Ryzen doesnt have a place here unless I want to pay lot more for Ryzen 9. I am not 100% sure on any the facts so dont grill me lol. This is but based on the limited knoledge i have and what I see available to me personally to buy. Im no hardware expert and if IM totally wrong then again, this would be another reason people buy intel. Coz they simply dont know better.

  • "Why are people still buying Intel" AMD is for me like a gamble, one Generation is absolutly good, the next one is garbage and after that it's fine again. With the Bulldozer Series i absolutly lost my trust in this brand. I rather have a little bit slower CPU from Intel which is stable and running instead of a costly gamble and trouble because of AMDs experiments.

Firestone gave ford a recommended air pressure to run the tires at, and ford ignored their recommendation and set the tire pressure way too low, for a better ride, causing the tires to blow out. Not enough pressure for the weight on the tires. You can see that those ford explorers before the issue was addressed, say 26 psi in the tires. The updated explorer wanted 32 psi in the tires.

  • The last Intel Chip I have had as my main PC's cpu was a 233MMX. With CPU integration you can get apples "end to end" control. As things get sucked into the cpu. Remember PC chips? They made whole PC's on a chip in the early 90's, and earlier Whats it going to be like when cpu's have TB's of NV cache. Once you have dozens of cores to throw around, and your system drive right there. A Gcard is what is turning into the "video game console" Just like the voodoo 2 did. I have only had 2 MB's in the last 16 years, both Asus, both AMD. I was rocking an 8AN-SLI deluxe threw that whole FX thing. 2004-1014. Dual 6600's in SLI ($180 each) until I paid $100 for a HD7850 in 2011ish. Got an Asus FM2+ crossblade ranger in 2014 with a X4 750K cpu, Then got an A-10 7850 CPU in 2018, and a second motherboard for the "retired" cpu, and Gcard. I have two FM2 systems. one is at my moms on grand kid duty. Both are perfectly usable PC's For the lat forever there has been the "VCR" concept to PC's. The point where they are all just a standard piece of equipment. In the early days of PC's hardware was trying to catch up to software. In about the late 90's hardware overtook and shot past software. Now software is trying to push up to the levels of hardware, and how much do people need. A lot of it has to do with the nature of the output. There is a lot to be said about what a PC is, and does, 1440 vs 4K, vs virtual reality rendering

  • I like both Intel and AMD processors but I will not hide the fact I have a preference to Intel but would not hesitate to buy AMD tomorrow also I feel the main reason I favor Intel more is because it seems to work with Nvidia cards much better than AMD just my experience 👍

  • Years ago, AMD introduced the Athlon chip which was supposed to be the king of gaming. It may have been but it failed about 2 years down the road. I have used Intel processors since 1991 and have never had one fail.

    • This is why I buy intel, every AMD chip I’ve ever owned has ran hot and failed

  • My 9700K is 2 years old now and has been running at 5.3ghz for almost it's entire life on all 8 cores at a relatively high voltage (had to increase voltage about 5 months ago due to instability) And that's why I stick with intel, First thing I do when I get a new system is see how far I can push it without using any crazy liquid solutions or stupidly high voltages and once I had an issue with a game where the game would push my memory over the time of the session and my fps would just drop to 20 and below as soon as my VRAM was filled and my DDR memory was about 80-90% full, I asked for help and all I got is: "That cpu is unstable" , "There's no way a small 9700K will push that high" So I had to troubleshoot all by myself because none would even care to listen to me.
