This is how our Sponsorship's work... and how they DON'T!

With all the discussions going around about "Bought and Paid For Reviews" I figured I would once again make a video about how our content sponsorships work... and how they will NEVER be...

  • I went from not knowing Jay at all to seeing hours of his videos in like a month, and it may be the fact that he is so "real" and "true" about his opinions and almost unscripted videos that made me want to watch him just for the fun of it, and I also get to learn while I'm preparing for my first build. Thanks Jay! And greetings from Chile!

I bought a new keyboard at a store, the keyboard broke down. sent it to the store warranty, and neither keyboard. nor money for an equal, I contacted gskill and they said they could do nothing. they gave me a credit note with half its value. this is one more brand, I don’t buy anything else.

  • 12:16 so you say you play world of warships and you have no problems promoting that game. So was that the same reason why you promoted RAID shadowlegends? Were you crazy about that game and didnt even play it. You only mentioned that it paid really well. I doubt you even played that game. That’s why people dont trust ‘influencers.’

  • So curious, Linus has done a similar video to this (probably for the same reason) and has stated that they may take sponsorships to do certain videos. That being said, he said that while they will do it, they have certain limits. As in they will still say what they like/don't like about the product and whether they would recommend/not recommend the product. Ever been asked to do a product review with sponsorship but still full control or even the appearance of it is not something you will do? Thanks for the great channel!

  • Getting the newest hardware for free requires a company to want to do that, obviously free products is a possible/probable influence on the reviews since you want to get their future products too (you want to review everything new and relevant for your channel at any time). Many youtubers buy the products they review themselves in order to stay "non-bribed".

  • RAIDS: Shadow Legends ads is such a meme that nobody really cares about it if a VIworldr does it, because everyone in the audience knows the game is shit, but the You Tuber got the payout, so it's just a win win in the end. Internet Historian does the ad about every time. But everyone of us knows about it, and he makes a good story out of the sponsor, we just let him have at it. We won't play the game, he gets 5 grand. Whatever.

  • 2 things. 1) Brand loyalty has to be earned, as you said. That said, after being burned a couple of times by the companies I prefer (this leads into 2.) channels like yours and GN's help me with my purchasing decisions. My first GPU buy was an EVGA FX 5700 (I think; may have been a step lower). I based that buy on the TNT2 that was in the build I bought from a friend. This was clearly before channels like yours were a thing; I'd have gone with an ATI card knowing what I know now lol. However, the products not failing and doing what I wanted them to do helped to build recognition and loyalty. Thanks to channels like yours, I've expanded my view of the DIY PC landscape. Since then, I've found a few companies that have earned my hard-earned money for the components they produce, learned that AiO's/liquid cooling is a great option, and so much more. Honestly, after watching a lot of techTuber channels, yours is one of the few I still try to watch on the regular. You and GN are outstanding! Keep on keepin' on. Trolls gonna troll. Ignore that nonsense.

  • "They send us products to review". Consider how much of your content relies on vendors giving you free stuff to review/play with. Even though they don't pay you, you can see how even just that free stuff could influence a review to make sure you stay in good graces and get more free stuff for future videos. I'm not saying you are a shill at all (been watching you for 7-8 years because you still seem like the same Jay that had to buy everything), but don't blow off the "we just get hot free stuff to make videos with" thing as though that really isn't a form of payment. Most small channels would kill for the access to new free hardware that big channels like yours get.

(that and the hijinks) I agree that "Influencer" is a terrible term. To influence has a negative aspect to it, as though to override your free will. It's in the same league as Peer Pressure, in my books.

You got me back to pc building that I strayed away from for years. So keep up the good work with your channel and now since the rig is done-- I also watch because you and Phil are entertaining.. • at 5:45 in your video, Jay you say I boycotted them ever since and won't promote them, so we are influenced by your choices not real data. Your personal feelings should not stand in the way of products you film if your not wanting to be just an influence. I watch this channel only for the real data and that can be hard do to the lack of products you review. Every one loves the back and forth of brand to brand but when looking for real data you have to watch more than one channel to get the whole story. Influence from your personal feelings will have people believe that a product is bad regardless if you say go buy it. You won't, so we won't, it's that simple. Some will, but the majority won't. This channel is just a product placement ad and with that comes personal reasons to buy or show what a sponsor has to offer the world. More or less a long funny or serious commercial.

  • 6:00 Completely irrelevant passage of information to do damage control for one or another brand. As long as daughter company is part of corporate capital, they're at fault. Also, as long as they're under the same brand, they are at fault. The only reason they're under the same brand is to gain brand recognition. If McDonald's in Ireland serves spoiled food, gets sued, the McDonald's Corporation (headquartered in U.S.) IS ALSO at fault. Both legally (actually that depends on jurisdiction, some countries give legal immunity for franchises, but that's rare) and from the public opinion standpoint. You spent four minutes on a moot point.

  • annual video because people don't scroll to older videos. Just to note on the MSI thing. When you work you tend to do mistakes and that's is a problem but the bigger problem is what comes afterwards. The video should stay up, MSI should say: "sry dude you got a bad product let us fix that, we will send you a new one, and than send us back the FUBAR one" and the correct response and do it in a week or two, after that the guy should do a video on customer service and if the product is fine or not because these things are bound to happen sooner or later. I ordered a server and 48TB WD red 3,5" and the server came with 2.5" slots... I was like, Mario where should i put those disks, and send him the picture of me trying to install the disk. He sad sorry there was a mix up and in 3-4 days the correct server came from London to Croatia Zagreb, and he personally delivered it to me. I was not in a rush, but he did his best, and in the end made his mistake right, so should MSI, and the reviewer should do a follow up video, not to take down the last one.

  • You lost me when you said they send you products for free. No, you're not going to honestly review that product, because you want them to continue sending you free products. If you do a video saying a company's product is garbage, they're never going to send you another product. Another point - when a company gives you free products, you have no idea what you're getting. They may have spent an extra month or two tuning and optimizing the one they sent you, to the point where it's completely unrepresentative of the retail products consumers will receive. It's all garbage. Don't trust anyone who accepts anything at all from companies, money products etc. Edit: "your view still helps us sell content" nice

  • I am disappointed with MSI. I had a GE75 Raider 10SE-008 that I loved for a few days until it started misbehaving like crazy. Dragon Center was changing settings by itself, the laptop was making weird electric hums and clicks, and to top it off when the computer went to sleep mode it would stop recognizing the SSD. Just too many annoyances for a $1400 laptop.

  • After about 5 years of watching videos for reviews is that 95% is so superficial that they are useless for people who have to live with the product long term. You keep pushing new products when they are not necessary in search for a 'perfect' product...., then when you are looking for instructions to actually use the product most of the time, you leave out the one thing that you know but the person watching the video doesn't get yet. Reviews have in some ways have replaced instruction manuals because they are deemed too expensive to write. So now we have a system where people teach others how to use the product (in videos and forums) The whole system is useless to me other than broad entertainment. Maybe I'm wrong but someone explain to me how someone who has access to a huge variety of the equipment give usable spending decisions when you have one choice you have to live with for years?.
