  • Just to add to something at 12:49 that I forgot to touch on - The reason the RTX 3080 is so slow is because Octane will allow for OOC (out of core) rendering. This means that whatever doesnt fit in the GPUs frame buffer will use system RAM. GPU using system ram is extremely slow vs using the VRAM. ITs a representation also in what happens in gaming if you have a gaming scene that uses more VRAM than what is available on your card... this is also why the discussion on whether or not 6/8GB of VRAM is enough these days... Just thought I would clarify.

    • That's what they said about 2GB vram being enough for 1080p gaming......and look how long that lasted.... I can tell you 4GB is minimum required for the division in 1080p run with all eye candy turned on.

  • From the start the 3080 should have had more Vram. AMD over here doing 16G of GDDR6 on the 6800 while Nividia barely put 10G of GDDR6X on the 3080. I know the 3080 Ti will come out, but come on. The 3080 Ti will make the 3090 price-wise; useless.

  • Viewpoints! If people see the RTX 3090 as an RTX 3080 Ti, the superior performance over the $1200 RTX 2080 Ti is worth the extra $300. Having said that, the RTX 3080 is the better value for over half the price. Money is no object if you think about it. You're already spending a lot of money on either card. Now, if you want to save money for another PC component, for gaming, you're still doing great with the RTX 3080. Can't go wrong with either one, and you're not losing money by getting the RTX 3090, because it's faster and $1000 less than the Titan RTX. Viewpoints! I think it's a win-win situation for anyone getting either one of the cards.

But that's a lot to ask for right now between the GPU and monitor markets. With the 30-series this covers 1 end now. Just need the monitor market to catch up since the 30-series has HDMI 2.1 to give all the bandwidth necessary. I'm still gonna sit on my 2080Ti and Acer X34 for now.

  • With the RTX 3080 priced at $699, I wouldn’t pay more than $899 for the 3090. The 3090 didn’t even get an average of 15% more FPS that the 3080 in all the games you showed. At 4K the 3090 only averaged about 10% more FPS in the games. At 1440p, the advantage was even less. I’m waiting for a 3080 Ti with at least 16GB of RAM. I have the 2080 Ti EVGA Ultra Gaming Hybrid and more than gets the jobs done.

Is a Quadro from a couple of years ago, at 4x the price or more, probably even used, still vastly superior to the 3090? Or is it, price-to-performance-wise, getting competitive?

  • While I agree with your conclusions regarding average gamers. There is a special category of us, primarily flight simmers for which the extra vram of the 3090 is very, very important. Another example of a game that can really use up a lot of both ram and vram is Cities Skylines. That's why I'm going with a 3090 for my next build, already ordered.

  • Cannot afford to upgrade, so I am staying with what I have (EVGA 1060 SC 6gb) Then again I am still on Win 7 and running triple 32" 1080p TVs. The 3090 is a waste of money for me, and the 3080 is a good fit for a future upgrade, but I need mobo, cpu, nvme drives, and an entire new system if I did go 3080. And considering I cannot work right now, money for a computer upgrade is not available.

And I couldn't find documentation about how well rtx 3080 or 3090 could perform over the titan RTX, considering that the titan RTX have more tensorcores which can be used to train AI more efficiently but also I couldn't find if tensorflow can use this tensorcores, what Im sure about is that cudacores are used in the program. Help please If someone know more about the topic, Im very confused.

  • Wait, did Nvidia not officially market it as a Gaming card ? then back tracked and said its for productivity when it was only marginally faster than a 3080 and costs more than double ? Another question, doesn't the titan have more unlocked productivity features which is locked off from the 3090 ? how about you run some of them tests lol. so another way to look at the titan is a bridge between going Quadro or Titan depending on your productivity requirements. Seeing as the 3090 is a gaming card and does not support the more advanced instruction sets of Titan or Quadro. Then its a blatant rip off from Nvidia selling a GAMING card that's only 10-15% faster than the model one tier down but costs 100-% more. Stop trying to kiss Nvidia's ass while they tearing their customers a new one. Learn from HU and GN and shit on a company if they doing something shady like 3090 pricing. Any bet when the 20GB 3080 drops the 3090 will be between 5-10% faster at most and on par if not slower if you OC the 3080, hell even a 8GB 3080 with a mild OC is 5-7% slower than a stock 3090

    Francois CombrinckFrancois Combrinck2 tháng trước
  • Waiting for RDNA 2 only then will I purchase but if RDNA 2 is a dud, I'll go with the 3080. The Higher Physical size and TDP on the 3090 at 10-15% performance isn't good enough for me.

  • I'm sticking with my Vega 56 for now as it's still getting the frame rate for 60 GHz Dell U2312HM and I haven't bought any games that require ray tracing. When I do upgrade, I try for any graphics card between $250 and $350. That's the same price range for the CPUs I buy and that's how I balance my system. As for the RTX 30 series in general, I'm just glad to see ray tracing technology maturing to the point where the performance doesn't take a hit when its turned on and consumer's wallets don't have to take a hit buying it. As for the RTX 3090 itself, at least from initial appearances, it doesn't come off as a scam the same way the RTX 2080 Ti did. Yes, the RTX 3090 costs more, but compared to the RTX 2080 Ti it delivers more and, as this video pointed out, it costs far less than the prior RTX Titan.

I have a 3700X and 32GB RAM that I'd like to play some FS 2020 at moderate settings, as well as whatever sims or racing games it can run. It's for gaming and that's pretty much it. Might build a 2nd one to host VMs but still won't need a high end GPU for that. Still getting used to having to spend as much as all the other core components combined on just the GPU to get significantly better performance* than an RX570 or RX480 (for example). * I don't play FPS type games, so those scores are pretty useless for me.

  • I love the 30 series and the 3090 is cheap AF if your business is animation. However I'm sticking with my old GTX1080Ti because it still does everything I need right now. It's fast enough for my Blender work and although it's slower than all these cards It's still not that slow. As far as gaming Destiny2 runs at 120FPS at 1440p and MS FS2020 runs at 44fps with everything set to high which for that game is fine. When my needs are impacted significantly by the performance of my rig then that's the time to upgrade. I know, I know, it's a weird point of view but there you go.

Paul Le MarsPaul Le Mars2 tháng trước
  • Edit: If you, along with Jay want to see more fun & creative 3D stuff (it's not always just animations, it can just be a single frame of a scene itself) go on Instagram & use Hashtags like #octanerender, #c4d, #howiseedatworld. Everything counts. You'll also find many artists that'll freely share assets & scenes for educational purposes like Beeple. (in fact you may have seen that name when launching something like after effects, yeah- it's the same guy who's made atleast one render everyday for the past SEVERAL years 🙏🏼🙏🏼) Originally I just came over to watch this for entertainment value.. But I'm surprised Jay went more in depth for 3D rendering tests than GN.. Albeit several other things missing like Redshift, actual scenes with assets inside Octanerender, etc etc. But it's nice for once for a more "wider" audience to see why it's relevant for the small number of us who actually are getting the card for work *first* & play *second*. Which is also to say that if you're only getting a 3090 for gaming, you're probably an idiot & who knows the amount of e-waste you alone have contributed to by upgrading because you "think", it'll make your social circle sing praises to you lol. They won't.
