  • My dream system would be a workstation Threadripper, with at least 64gb of memory for all my big tasks (streaming, editing), with a nice large rad for it up top, with fan cooling in the front not a lot of RGB. For the ITX I would want a simple gaming rig (ryzen with a 120mm rad at the back) with a 3070. A 3080 is overkill for my needs but I want to stream more and my current potato PC is potato. But if I had to be frugal, I would take my current potato PC and build a nice gaming rig in ITX form so I could use the potato to edit and stream with, with both systems running fan cooling because I haven't been able to upgrade since 2015/2016. I currently run a 4770k w/24gb of 1866DDR3 and a 1070. Potato.. It does the job but it suffers when trying to stream anything new. This all being if I could even afford the case, which I cannot currently do. Haha. I never have had the budget to ever build my dream PC but it would be one hell of a system. I've always nabbed hand-me-downs from family members and the only new thing I bought was the 1070.

  • I've thought that case would make a good server (NAS) since you can stick so many 3.5" drives in it. I'm not sure what the use case for a second system in the case might be, but if you were using it as your daily case, you might have Windows on the big motherboard, and a Linux install running on the micro MB. This would save the trouble of VMs using resources in your gaming rig, and you can get away with a lesser graphics card, or even an APU running Linux. I'm not sure why you'd have 2 Linux machines in the same case, but I do like the idea of having a NAS, and some smaller server for whatever.

  • "GPUs don't generate nearly the heat they used to.." Didn't he get one of those 300+ watt NVidia cards? NVidia's decision to go with Samsung's process ensured we _do_ have space-heater GPUs.

  • It's nice, but I wouldn't be able to use it because those silly USP ports under the door, and the lack of at least one 5 1/4 drive bay. I use a 8-port USB thing in my bay for that. I thought this could be an upgrade to my Obsidian 750D, but I like mine better.

  • Well since you ask about my dream build in this case: I'm actually finding a way to put in as much hashing and/or folding power into a single case, while it being silent enough to use as a room heater. I've chosen this case do to various reasons, and this is where I'm at: For now the platform, Threadripper. Unfortunately there is no way to run twin TR, you would need EPYC CPUs for that, and honestly I wouldn't even know if it'd work, might part it out later if I find the right motherboard though. CPU would be a 3990X as is the most powerful out there. Would go Zen 3 when it comes. Intel is out of the question for hashing. The motherboard is a SuperMicro TR4 which I forgot the name. I would really prefer a consumer mobo with OC support, but the SuperMicro is the only way I'll fit 8 cards. All other motherboards put M.2s in place of at least 2 of the PCIe slots (limiting me to 5 cards directly connected and 7 in total) while the one chosen, has 5 PCIe x16, an open x8, and two M.2 slots located close to the chipset, for a total of: 6 x16 sized cards directly connected to the motherboard and 2 cards connected using risers, 8 total. Risers from where you'd ask? Well from the M.2. slots. Yeah you can do that, up to X4 in fact from one of them. You need to add power to the slot though, it's done through the adapter. The 2 extra cards would mount to the vertical GPU mounts. Ok but what cards? Radeon VII. heck? yes. but they use 2 slots. Not with waterblocks. god damm. So yeah, with Barrow GPU blocks, 6 cards on the mobo would be tightly packed together, and the 2 other cards would sit on the outer vertical mounts, using some interesting techniques to be able to pipe the whole thing. In theory you'd be able to air cool at least one or maybe 2 cards to alleviate some heat of the loop, but if done correctly, I think they'd be better off on water. Also the 3 free PCI slots, they might help for something later (external cooling for hot weather? Heck yes. Maybe even heat water lmao). As for radiators, not chosen yet, but id say at least 4 in total, that being bottom, front, side and top, while I'll possibly keep the rear one as a fresh (maybe direct) cold air intake for the CPU, which did I mention is air cooled? As for fans, well I think Noctua Industrial 2000RPM fans would fit thick radiators quite well, while not being super obnoxious at full speed. Air cooled CPU, well yes, is seemed more effective than adding it to the loop. There isn't that many great coolers for the 3990X, and even full cover waterblocks seem to not properly cool the chiplets on the borders of the IHS. So once again Noctua seems like the right choice. The NH-U14S TR4-SP3 single tower is very probably our best solution, if a bit too quiet (ha). However what I've not seen in direct comparison with it is the Silver Arrow TR4 from ThermalRight. With it's heavier, dual tower 8 heat pipe sink, it might be able to beat the Noctua, and even if not, ThermalRight's TY-143 2500RPM fan would possibly combine pretty well with Noctua's cooler, replacing it's 1500 RPM fan with it might be able to gain you multiple degrees of cooling for some extra decibels. Ok power, how the hell do you power all this? Each card stock draws around 300W peak, while the CPU has a 280W TDP alone, probably not accounting for boosting and clearly not doing so for the motherboard's draw itself. That alone already gives us around 2700W of power. The not-there-yet only few 2000W PSU's ever produced are nowhere to be found, but that's not problem for this chassis. Twin PSU's baby. 1600W EVGA units would do the trick. But G2, P2 or T2? T2 right? Well, JohnnyGuru's test show that they are all almost identical, the Platinum is very close to the Titanium just do to how ratings work, and the Gold unit basically meets Platinum if you allow or 5% or so tolerance. Did the math and the extra price of the P2 over the G2 would take slightly more than year to pay off in Oregon's cheap electricity, while the T2 was about 8 years or more over the P2. P2 it is (Honestly why the fuck am I trying to save money, I'd be already sucking electricity like I'm burning coal, might as well go for a binned version of the T2. 3000W of heat is already plenty and in the summer might as well reduce it, even if a tiny bit). So let's finish this. RAM. Well do to the motherboard id probably be limited to official speeds. 3200mhz 14cas 8gb B-die Gskills in quad would probably be it, but idk i think this thing has 8 channel, might go for 8 B-die 8b sticks or just E die 4gb sticks to save some. I don't think CPU hashing requires much RAM, I just need a big pagefile for the cards. Speaking about pagefile: A SATA SSD it is since we used the M.2. for cards. 480Gb should allow for Windows, 16gb x 8 cards of pagefile and a few programs that would be interesting to run on this thing. A Samsung 860 Pro would be chosen for durability. Alright, hope you enjoying reading that if you did so. Honestly this is crazy, yet it might be reasonable. With current profitability, these components (when properly optimized) can together mine approximately 30 dollars a day minus electricity, and if you didn't know, heating with a computer is basically 100% electrically efficient, only beaten by a heatpump. If you managed to mine this system 24/7, it would probably eliminate your heating bill, and if profitability stays somewhat stable, it could actually pay for itself in not much more, if not less than, a year. TLDR 8 GPUs and a 64 core CPU.

NO PROPRIETARY FAN !!!!) that fits in the 3 ODD drive space and has 4 3.5/2,5 inch drive spaces in there, 3 for 1 system, 1 for the other, plus I have that way an individual activity led for each drive and access to it from outside the case, since it's hot swappable, honestly NOTHING beats those ideas

  • I actually own the Enthroo Pro I. It's almost nothing like like the Pro II, other than the silly covered USB ports in the front. The Pro I is more old school, including three 5 1/4" drive bays. The I is not designed for dual systems and nowhere near as modular. Also, the Pro I used hinges for the glass door, which unfortunately lead to a disaster in my build. I didn't notice the hinges had gotten bent, and when trying to close the door, it shattered. Pretty sure I still have glass bits in my carpet. All in all, I'd say this is a complete evolution of the Pro I.

  • CPU and GPU are generating less heat than before? Which world you live in? Pre-2010 CPUs were mostly below 100 watt, 120mm rad AIO was able to handle everything, 70C in Prime95 was considered pretty high. Now we have 9900K drawing over 150 watt, TR drawing near 300 watt, 240mm rad AIO considered minimal for many high end CPUs and 90C in Prime95 is becoming acceptable. Don't even started on GPU either, back then one slot high end card was still a thing, like the 9800GTX.
