  • Eventually, MS will make the simulator bundled with its own kernel so you'll have to install it like another operating system to get the best performance.

  • hello Jay you helped me out alot i just got msfs yesterday and i been trying to get more fps and it was about optimizing the computer watching you video i finally did it im getting a solid 50fps i'm running a I7 8700k overcloacked to 5.0 ghz and a nvidia 2080 super what i did was disable all vsync in game and in nvidia also the antialising turn off the mxaa and fxaa in the sim turn on the taa antialasing option between medium, high, ultra there is very little diference on fps the 3 sliders that is what you need to play around with texture detail and object detailed i put it all the way to the left and the rendering one to 60 that is what makes the cockpit in the planes more detailed and its weird because im using 30% of cpu and 75-97% gpu so the sim hardly uses any cpu shadows, objects and traffic should all be handled by the cpu and not the gpu hopefully the dervs will optimize the sim better in the future. the sim looks fantastic i really love it thank you!!.. just want to say that you need to try to get 50fps because you might get a 10 to 15 fps drop when in crowded areas with lot of traffic such as nyc so this way here youll get between 30-35 whixh is fine anything below 30fps is rough when in crowded areas.

  • I have got a trick... Go into windows settings (the cock wheel) Search power and click power management settings. Then click advanced and a little white windows pops up with power plans and click advanced options and scroll until you find the maximum processor state and set it to 99% don’t go to 100% as it’s possible for getting stutters or fps drops. Then set the minimum processor state to 99%. Don’t forget to hit “Apply”😀

  • Building new machine for Flight Sim 2020. (Waiting for 3080 to become available). One thing i am doing to further improve performance is dual boot (2 drives with individual OS's), 2 NVMe M.2's, one M.2 for everyday PC with 500GB and one for Gaming exclusively with 1TB. The gaming PC would run only base OS with all newest drivers installed, but nothing else running background. No malware soft, nothing. If i need to do any everyday chore i just reboot to "everyday PC"...

  • I have a 1st gen i7 2.6ghz with a 970gtx 4gb..i can run flight simulator ultrasettings at 70fps flying through Tokyo with every setting turned upto the max . Why am I able to run the game as well as I am on my 12 year old cpu and old gpu.... il suggest despite what people tell you... Two very important parts of a pc is the power supply and motherboard...... Don't skimp on these parts... 12 years ago those two parts on my pc set me back £650 alone...literally the only upgrade I've done in 12 years was getting a 970 windfarm a few years ago, the pc isn't over clocked either.. Its just good quality components put together.

  • I'm a bit late to the party, but it seems you wondered why FS2020 is so badly optimised and uses so few cores, while the answer was on your screen pretty much full-time: DirectX 11. Flight simulators is a genre that benefits greatly from low-overhead APIs, because of the insane draw-call count. Last time I checked, using multiple cores in DX11 somewhat works if you know what you're doing, but it will be severely limited. You said multiple times already that FS2020 (and flight sims in general) is something where you don't need a lot of fps. While that's somewhat true in 2D, it's definitely not true for VR, which is what Microsoft promised would be coming for this title. I spend a lot of time in flight simulators: I built my PC specifically for DCS World in VR. Using DCS, I get around 120 fps in 2D, while in certain areas it is barely playable in VR. I doubt that in FS2020 if VR was supported right now, you'd get anywhere over 5 to 10 fps. And you know what DCS and FS have in common? They're both DX11 titles, but at least the DCS developers have been working for years now on a new graphics engine with Vulkan support, which we should hopefully see in action soon. I don't understand why Microsoft didn't opt for DX12 for FS2020. Yes it is perfectly obvious they wouldn't pick Vulkan, but at least DX12 would offer much better performance and also much better scaling with better hardware: DCS is also a title that is heavily CPU-bound, and where you see little performance gains going from a lower and to a top tear GPU. The only reason I can think of that Microsoft decided to roll with DX11 here, is that they couldn't get it done in time and wanted to push FS2020 out asap...

Some of what you're calling shutters is the loading of the map you have to preload certain areas first. Also the first time you fly over a spot it loads it in the second time you fly over a spot it doesn't so you have to test in new areas

  • Actually most settings on Medium will work just fine and you can hardly see any difference to higher settings. Only Grass and water will noticably look better on High and clouds even benefit from Ultra settings. My 1070 on a Ryzen 3600X and 32GB of RAM are working just fine on a 1440p monitor. I was worried there'd be more problems. Well... at first I installed it on a HDD but then I decided going for a SSD will be a good idea. It was. Loading still takes a lot of time but loading from HDD actually made you feel like the game crashed although it didn't. I still hope they are going to optimize hardware utilisation over time.

  • I played a lot of FSX with many addons. I got bouth installed on the same ssd. Bouth, FSX and MSFS are using almost the same space of storage. FSX is louding much faster. MSFS is almost as fast as fsx with all my addons on an HDD to load. The main diffrence between bouth are textures and the needed Internet connection on MSFS. BUT FPS is on bouth sims almost the same.

  • Right now I'm using a 3080 graphics card and it still stutters especially on a triple monitor setting. I guess MS2020 is not really optimized for triple monitors yet, the sides do look a lot distorted. On DCS it runs fine with max graphics but MS2020 is taking a hard hit. Although I have a strong graphics card, I believe my CPU now becomes the bottleneck since i'm still using the reliable i7 4790 from 5 years ago...I was wondering if I jump to the zen3 from AMD, how much of an improvement will I see?
