  • It took AMD this long with it’s 7nm lithography to finally top Intel’s “ancient” 14nm in gaming performance? What happens when Intel’s transistor density exponentially rises when they transition to 7nm, or even 5nm?

  • My dream CPU for audio production that i can't afford, those insane clocks lol.

    Star mastercStar mastercTháng trước
    • @J C. Not possible sadly, that's how audio works, even when a synth produces a sound, each part of the signal chain has to happen in the correct sequence of events, therefore running in parallel is almost impossible. Also, there is lot of heavy math like floating point, fast fourier transforms, filtering and other stuff which is far more complex than vectors for an image. It tries to simulate how the real life analog world works.

      Star mastercStar mastercTháng trước
    • @Star masterc yes, a single core can bottleneck the whole thing in audio unfortunately. It would be great to see the thread usage fix that somehow eventually.

      J C.J C.Tháng trước
    • @J C. Also, you have other architectural differences between Intel and AMD, since Intel's CPUs have very low internal latency also makes them the best gaming CPUs, audio production or music production is a real-time heavy workload like gaming is, the CPU has to deliver data for very small periods of time with the audio buffer just like in gaming you have the game cycle. I think that having more than 8 or 10 cores is a waste. Let's see what happens with Zen 3 from AMD.

      Star mastercStar mastercTháng trước
    • @J C. Insane singlethread perfomance allows a CPU to handle chains of effects better because they can't be processed in parallel very well due to the logic and serial bottleneck. Better the singlethread perfomance, you will reduce the bottleneck or the difference between the CPU meter in the DAW (Digital Work Station) or Windows's Task Manager as an example. Also, more stable very low buffer sizes, the 10 cores means that you can have a lot of instruments on a mix or a track. Ryzen has insane core counts but you will lose a little bit of stability for lower buffer sizes since the singlethread isn't as strong and they aren't the best in gaming. Ryzen 9 3950X could technically be the best but it's more dedicated for rendering, virtual machines and other things like that, best single core perfomance with high core count is better.

  • As someone new to o/c the 10900k... I'm astonished that you were able to o/c your cpu at 5.2ghz on all cores with 1.36v with a chip with SP rating of 63. My 10900k has a SP rating of 87 and I can't get it to overclock past 5ghz with out obsurd temps. I'm not running a open-bench, but i have my H115i pulling in cold air from the front of the case, running 4 fans in push/pull config. I'm really interested in your bios settings now. lol. (i can run 5ghz on all cores at 1.3vcore with LLC 4 settings, auto on the rest, memory set to xmp1)

  • I remember when AMD was stuck on 45nm with phenom ii, they released higher pushed clocks and 6 core thubans on 45nm and I feel like this is Intel's turn. I think both companies are handling it right. For what they got, Intel is still providing good chips. I would love to see them to just play the "value" role like AMD did and really push their arch as far as possible at cheaper prices.

  • There are many risks with AIO Water cooling, it is not worth it just to get 5 centigrad less than with a good "Be Quiet" Air Cooler. If someone is serious, and use their computer for work (not just gaming), you should definitely get an Air Cooler. Being 5 or even 10 centigrad above AIO cooler, with an Air cooler, will make absolutely nothing to your chip, as long as you don't extremely overclock or do something like that, and as long as you are inside the accepted factory temps for the chip you are using. Obviously, those AIO coolers are trendy for the new teens, but in reality it makes absolutely no sense to use them, instead of a good Air Cooler.

Pick one, any ryzen, lol. Until they support OC clock speeds to rival intel and still POST or not blue screen, Ill stick with Intel. For stock clocks though, if youre not a power user and just wanna game on a budget, just get a ryzen.
