  • Hey, any chance of doing a complete cpu + ram overclocking tutorial for amd ? I've gone to ryzen for the first time and well, nothing works like it does on intel, xmp crashes the system, the cpu won't overclock, ram in cpu-z shows up at 1033 mhz. Seeing as a lot of people are now switching to amd it might be a good time to go and show how it's done, I'm fairly certain I'm not the only one in this case. Cheers for the content!

Whenever I enable an XMP profile to raise the frequency to 3200 or just manually raise the frequency to 3200 my system won’t boot to bios and I’m stuck taking the CMOS out. • I just built a computer with the ryzen3900x ,asus crosshair hero x570 ,still gotta find a graphics card because the 730 i have doesn't do anything ,should I run 2 16gb sticks of 3600 corsair vengeance pro or should I run 4 8gb 3600 sticks ,I have 2 8gb 3200mz in there now but would like to get as good of performance as I can without having any problems, ps this is my first complete pc build ,it started with me buying a cyberpower pc pre-built and being very unhappy with the performance I got after spending 1000,the only thing usable was the phantex case after buying a mesh front for it ,everything else was outdated and couldn't do anything with ,also a recommendation on a good graphics card to pair with this setup would be great ,I'm also running a Thermaltake toughpower 850w 80+ gold power supply and a cooler master 360 rad aio in the front a coolermasted 240 Up top blowing air into the case and a cooler master 120 in the back for exhaust ,I have fans on the inside of the rad blowing air out the front to blow the hot air out, I used your idea with the intense sticks and checked for air pressure and it has positive air pressure, thanks for your time and I enjoy watching your videos

  • I would like to see a new test with the new Ryzen 5000. The fps improvement for faster RAM should be higher, since the clock speed of zen 3 is higher as well I think? Also need a new gaming rig and kind of confused on which RAM to by. But speed should matter since with their new gpu in combination to access the faster DDR6 graphic memory they also boost performances, or am I mistaken?

  • Mine is Ryzen 5 3400g 4Ghz 3200 Mhz ~ 90 fps 3400 Mhz ~ 94 fps

    Cdek IbalioCdek Ibalio24 ngày trước
  • Using average fps is misleading because the actual smoothness in game is limited by worst case fps, which is highly sensitive to timings and doesn't benefit much if at all from higher memory clock speeds. Also unless you have a ridiculously expensive gaming monitor you're going to be limited to 60-75fps anyway, but as long as your worst-case fps is >= your monitor's refresh rate then you're good, and if not then average fps is totally irrelevant.

  • So on my on Z490 Unify board it telsl me like 2dcp 2r @ 4000mhz i think so that 64gigs (4x16) of ram at 4000mhz and the board will support it ( i could be wrong please do correct me) But I'm going to get a new 570 MSI Unify to make an all Ryzen system but it doesnt give me the how many sticks I can have at what speed it will take...just a list of all the speeds it can take. So does it matter on a Ryzen? I mean can I have 4 sticks of 4600mhz (max speed listed) of any size denomination? (8 -16-32) up to 128?

  • This might be a dumb question but here it goes. My cpu supports up to 3200Mhz ram speed, my motherboard on the other hand supports all the way up to 4400Mhz. So if i buy 2x8 3600Mhz ram kit for example, does it "downclock" it self to 3200Mhz that my cpu supports? If it does, can i just fix it by enabling the xmp from the bios or?

    • performance tab in task manager might be able to show a bit how things manages

      smievilsmievilTháng trước
    • @smievil Thanks for replying either way 😊 Yea so a better gpu would guarantee better performance with this cpu and ram setup. In this vid shows how the ram and cpu can hold back the gpu, in layman’s terms. So I was wondering if this would be beneficial to me, and my 1660ti. This may just work for folk with high end cards. A 1660ti is probably the bottleneck here, therefore changing these settings may not result in any change for me, unfortunately. Hoping that I’m wrong, let’s see if someone can confirm it.

      Michael J.C.Michael J.C.Tháng trước
    • maybe some games would run better with better gpu. but i think better cpu and ram can have different benefits, not just for games. my system is quite dated but i think faster storage and better ram could be really helpful, i'm probably not really playing the most demanding games available though. And i might be quite clueless

  • Gigahertz does not reign Supreme. The combination of gigahertz and instructions per clock does. You can overclock a bulldozer to 5ghz if you want, and you'll still be slower than a 3ghz Ryzen 3. Single core performance is clock speed*IPC. Not either or. Both numbers are necessary to know what single core performance is.

  • This has been the most confusing thing about building a computer for the first time in ten years. These CPUs say they don't do memory speed over 3200 without overclocking. But they benefit from 3600, what, because boost counts as overclocking?

  • This information was about as useful as the Intel video you did before on the same topic, people with budget concerns aren't being helped. FYI, that is the majority! Someone with a high-end graphics card and CPU will likely have less concern over price over performance on RAM, this information seems pretty useless to those who actually have budget concerns. Try giving us some info about low-end CPU, mid-tier CPU, heck perhaps some of the Ryzen APUs.

So if i set it to 4.3 it directly and running 4.3 all cores cinebench running and got like 200 points differences, so i guess i have to disagree with what jay said about don't set your ryzen speed manually

  • bottom line is : gone are the days where intensive tweaking and risk-taking was worth the return of investment in pure performance. Would it be the CPU (at least on Ryzen 3000+) or RAM (as evident in this video), leaving most of the stuff as they are and only setting the most extreme performance profile on RAM + PCO/Auto-OC on the CPU pretty much wins the day. If anything, you'll need to bump *down* the auto values for voltage on a lot of Mobos. Quite the headache for me to pick one even with all these very insightful tests such as Jay's that I love watching every once in a while.

All deals are in store only, and on top of that considering computer parts are going up in price and going out of stock so quickly, it's better to purchase them from somewhere like Amazon because the deals don't rely on you walking into a store, and you don't have to drive anywhere to then find out if an item is in stock. Not to mention MC's search is horrible!
