  • I'm not against some competition, however AMD does not need to "beat nvidia" They already have all the console gpu market which is huge, I would have expected AMD to just use left over ps4's and xbox series gpus that were either too good or not good enough to make console apus. After all they will have some, may as well use them. But now there is all this talk of a so called special gpu for gamers from AMD... When they can't produce enough for the consoles already, hard to imagine them going out of their way for a few lil PC guys wile Sony and $$oft are breathing down their necks.

  • I'm excited for this new gen of cpu and gpu from amd. Will probably upgrade to both from r7 2700x and rx580... even if Intel and Nvidia may have objectively (or outright) better performance, AMD is usually still better performance per dollar, is keeping pressure on intel and Nvidia, and someone has to support them in the fight.

  • The prices are too high. I got an AMD 3000G and whatever fastest memory supported by the motherboard. I'm playing games up to the year 2010 up to the highest settings and up to the 6th generation of consoles through emulations. In 10 years I'll build another PC and play games on the highest settings up to the year 2020 and 7th generation console video games through emulation. The fun is in the fact you know already which games did good and which failed tremendously. Another pro is the fact games are already optimized and with all the "DLCs". I'm still having fun equally as you.., the only difference being that I built my PC with 200$ and you with 2000$.

It happen with Intel when AMD started matching and even surpassing Intel in single core performance, it will eventually happen with nvidia. By forcing nvidia to take a huge step on this generation they proven they are already exerting pressure on them. It's just a matter of time they catch up now.

    • I would wait at least a few month. Just play with reduced settings for now. 5700xt for 400 euro is way to expansive at this point. I would not pay more than 250 euro for that kind of offering at this point. Also the 3070 has to little VRAM for the price point.

  • In any case, even NVidia fanboys should support AMD's competition. They're really the only ones close to preventing NVidia from monopolizing the GPU market, and that good for innovation and prices staying remotely reasonable.

  • Performance-per-dollar is a dishonest metric because performance-per-dollar ALWAYS goes up each generation. To praise it only invites price increases exery generation to the point that nobody can afford them. Don't compare the perf-per-dollar with Turing because Turing was awful. That's the agenda that nVidia wants to push.

    Avro ArrowAvro Arrow2 tháng trước
  • AMD already has the mid range GPU fps lead for less. The hardware is more than enough, its the driver/feature issues that hurt. If they can repeat the performance lead while adding game ready drivers, ray tracing, and solid encoder, they will win the mid range market share where 90% of GPUs get sold. AMD has shown it can flip the switch if they get serious. With the Ryzen team working on these new GPUs it certainly looks like they are deadly serious.

  • AMD GPU is going beat nvidia because of price , amd GPU always gives great performance with the great value of money

    Ram bhaktRam bhakt2 tháng trước
  • AMD always catches up with Nvidia, usually about 10-12 months later and with a price point of roughly 10%-20% lower. Sometimes more. Not everyone needs to have the latest and greatest the absolute first day it comes out. I'd say the $300-$400 is where the lion's share is at. Globally speaking. High mid range cards is the real battle ground IMO.

  • I'm kinda curious. I really don't think Nvidia would have given us a 90% jump in performance, the most ever in one gpu jump, if they didn't think the new amd gpus were going to be a threat. See Intel when they scrambled to cobble together the i9 in response to the success of the Ryzen cpus

The Dream TravelerThe Dream Traveler2 tháng trước
  • Is there room in the range for a $999 card? You betcha, it's called the RTX 3080 -- what? You didn't think the $699 price was real, did you?

    Fred DerfFred Derf2 tháng trước
  • Back in the day I used to say intel + nvidia is best combo always, this was largely due to my first few amd chips (cant remember the first but i know the last 2 were 955's) burned me hard on performance thermals and turned out to be not worth it compared to my q6600 at the time. I have to say recently my view has shifted from intel hard and I'm finding myself saving up now for a ryzen 5 system on a x570 (this futureproofing) board because price to performance (which of course includes overclocking so NO non-K cpu's can be counted here) amd seems to be crushing intel. So yeah it looks like amd got whipped by nvidia but a lot of the people who are wanting a 30xx are now looking at an amd cpu to address bottleneck and then they will EVENTUALLY catch up on gpu anyway and may overtake just a little bit. I think that in the grand scheme of things this is actually a victory for amd just a very indirect one.

    nauroticdaxnauroticdax2 tháng trước
    • @Fred Derf well it will certainly last 1 more cpu gen's worth which like you said use case, well nothing special tbh. It's still going to be leagues ahead of the i5 3570 i'm on at the moment and if I do get the 3070 that I fully intend to go for all signs point to a 3600 not bottle necking it all that much. thanks for the info though, like I said I have always been an intel guy so I honestly do not know a lot about amd after am2/3 my point still stands though about amd kinda winning out despite nvidia having the more powerful gpu

      nauroticdaxnauroticdax2 tháng trước
    • P.S. Unless you have some specific use-case, the system you build today will handle things just fine for at least five years and probably a decade.

      Fred DerfFred Derf2 tháng trước
    • @nauroticdax At this time the AM4 is a dated socket, AMD can't stay with the same socket and continue to improve. At some point they have to update their socket. When AMD released the AM4 socket back in Sept. 2016 they said they would continue to use it until 2020 -- well guess what year it is now.

      Fred DerfFred Derf2 tháng trước
    • @Fred Derf i had not seen am5...well fml I guess though I am glad you pointed it out, sadly it looks like am5 will also be using ddr5 so kinda double fucked any case I'm pretty sure a zen3 mobo should be good enough for 5ish years hell i literally ran that q6600 for 10 years and framed it after I retired it for my i5 the damn thing never died

      nauroticdaxnauroticdax2 tháng trước
    • +nauroticdax , you're not future-proofing yourself going with an X570, the Zen 3 chips are the last chips to use the AM4 socket, the next generation will be using the AM5 socket. So if a B550 or an X470, or even a B450 will do the job with the new CPU then you can save yourself some bucks.

      Fred DerfFred Derf2 tháng trước
  • Welp i guess we'll see what they've got

    CmaceCmace2 tháng trước
  • I'm always happy with competition and disruptive innovation, I just somewhat regret dropping all that money on a Radeon made obsolete within a few months.

    Magnus F. HanssenMagnus F. Hanssen2 tháng trước
  • If AMD comes out with raytracing cores and similar performance to Nvidia for less, just as Ryzen did with Intel in their 1st generation series, all these render engines, such as May's Arnold renderer, that only support CUDA and Optix from Nvidia should immediately start supporting AMD regardless of whether or not it's OpenCL.

    Sean BallenskySean Ballensky2 tháng trước
  • Don't go busting AMD's balls now, they are fighting in TWO fronts (CPU and GPU, not ONE like NVIDIA (only GPU) And they are killing intel since they released Ryzen with their technology, performance and speed. So the RND money goes two different areas meanwhile NVIDIA can put all their dollars into GPU, so it's expected for NVIDIA to have a "slight" edge. I'm sure AMD will release a beast of a gpu otherwise they will be out of the market this year so surrender flag is a FAR REACH. So yeah, we're waiting AMD.

    kalel jorelkalel jorel2 tháng trước
  • I build pc rig for more than 15 years all I know NVIDIA is only good for ripping off your money. AMD is way better in a ratio of value for money for GPU and CPU.

Ronald Von LedesmaRonald Von Ledesma2 tháng trước
  • Frankly AMD wouldn't care to compete with the 3090 in such a short time. Thus Nvidia holding a monopoly in this price performance range which is really outraging. But an answer to 3070-3080 must be seen at a lower price and a better or equal performance. Aswell as having stable drivers on release for the games coming out in november. Lots of people consider purchasing on the release threshhold. AMD stepping in a bit later so it seems, but november and december is a huge purchase time and prices only start to get lower in the beginning of next year.

  • AMD GPU division has been a crap show, they had one shot to annihilate RTX20XX in raster since RTX20 was just overpriced and bad value all around. A 1080 Ti has been the best card you could buy in terms of high end value at 400-500 used. All AMD needed was a 1080 Ti they could sell new for $500-600. And they messed up. Now nVidia has their pants back on and its over IMO.

  • I don't need to watch the video. The answer is simply technically no. While NVIDIA and Intel are just making their original stuff (yes, initially high prices, but this is pretty much everywhere) with their ideas, there comes AMD for...what? To say that they can make the "same" or (aaalmost) ""better"" for a lower price. B*tch pls. Literally the relatively low prices of AMD are the only reason for their existence and I still give no sh*t. I don't support and deal with plagiarism, fake progress and aimless chases. Neither new, neither used.

  • Nvidia does one thing.....GPUs and it's a huge company. AMD does two things......GPUs AND CPUs and it's not a huge company. How can a smaller company with fewer resources, trying to compete in two very fast moving markets compete with multiple large companies (Intel & Nividia) ? It really can't. AMD has chosen to attack Intel because they saw a weakness that they could exploit (intel's general lack of innovation in the CPU market due to the lack competition). AMD threw all their resources into competing and beating Intel, and the GPU side of the business has suffered for it. AMD cannot compete against Intel in the CPU market and NVIDIA in the GPU market at the same time. They do not have the resources and funding to due so.

  • Short answer no, amd has always gone after the mid row 1440p range instead of 4k reason being according to steam 4k onlys up just 2% of the market database, this time round though we will see a true 4k card for sure from mid level up since the consoles will offer 4k (possibly with upscale) makes there is a possibility that we will see a genuine 2080ti alternative so maybe the 3070 with crossfire is a possibility, since amd was aiming to finally beat the entry level however this time round since nvidia dropped the price the price difference may only be the same , the big issue comes with raytrace equivalent, as amd have already started they are not going for the same level mainly on landscape lighting than fidelity so this doesn’t have same overhead which I admit would be a shame , if nvidia adds nvbridge in January in a super chip with the extra ram however I get the feeling this will be marked up ridiculously for a feature that should have been included on the 70-80 series
